Resizing your images

All you need to know about re-sizing an image in Lightroom Classic, but the principles are the same whatever the editor. It’s really important to understand why you want to re-size, and use the most appropriate method to apply. For this reason, this article from David Coleman is both useful and timely …

Further to this I’ve done a bit more research and found this calculator which with the accompanying explanation I think helps an understanding of the relation between pixel dimensions, bit depth and file size and how an understanding helps us to decide how to resize (and compress if necessary) for different purpose. Highly recommended.

And finally, a video that hopefully advises that given DPI is a printer function that you can’t change in an image, but that PPI is a measure that you can use to help you assess the pixel dimensions that you need to aim for to get a PRINT copy that is acceptable to you. The only thing that really matters is the pixel dimensions and to get the desired quality you may need to resize in software to increase the PPI. Watch, and I hope all will be explained. [I knew I’d watched this just recently, but it took me quite a while to find it again.]

Hope this helps.
